the backyard is where anything can happen,
and probably will.
firebuilding duties eliminated the last hour.

while i was gone we lost runners to nosebleeds and sore knees
the water was repaired
and we have water again.
the toilet service cleaned the runners’ toilets
but not those for the crews.
it seemed that my time was taken up by everything except the actual race…

but every hour,
on the hour
the rituals of bells and whistles continued without interruption.
.now to get out there and get reconnected with the race.
