big dog’s backyard ultra hour 13:

this hour the backyarders reach past 50 miles.
25 out of 61 teams are still intact.

watching the US team,
like any of the others going strong,
there is almost a professionalism to their approach.

they came prepared to go long
and they are doing what it takes.

sometime tomorrow we should see the mid size competition starting to take shape.
it will take a lot longer to play out,
because the level of experience is much higher.

meanwhile,
the small countries are whetting our appetites with a pretty spirited competition of their own.

namibia still leads with 172 points and 13 still on course.
uruguay (-2) has 12
and zambia (-2) has 11

guatemala (-4) still has 14,
and they are relentlessly closing that lead.
if everyone holds serve on the 13th hour,
guatemala will be tied for second.

i have to say,
no one expected a performance like this out of guatemala.
but that is why we hold the races.
on paper guatemala had no chance.

but the chapines came to play.
hats off to guatemala!
