big dog’s backyard ultra 38 hours underway:
.
a few stats for your entertainment, or amazement,…
after 37 hours we still have 32 teams still competing
and 241 runners who have already run more than a day and a half.
.
the satellite runners have done 21,316 yards
totaling 88,817 miles (142,937 kilometers)
which would circle the globe three and a half times.
.
and the race is still young!
.
in the mid-size race iceland continues to inch up on netherland
with a 7-6 manpower advantage
they have cut the lead to 15 yards.
netherlands cannot afford to lose any more athletes
or that will evaporate!
the battle for the podium between portugal norway and slovakia;
portugal leads norway by one yard
and slovakia by two.
portugal and slovakia have 2 left
and norway with 3 should move back into a third place tie with portugal this hour.
.
in the open race belgium and new zealand look invincible
still with full rosters they are slowly pulling away at 555 yards.
the us is only one man down,
but our camp seems pretty concerned that we are 7 yards down and losing ground every hour.
i have more of an eye on spain.
they are holding at 6 yards behind us with the same number of athletes.
and spain has a lot of really strong backyard runners.
.
everyone else has fewer runners on their course than we do.
if we hold steady we can put some distance between us.
.
new zealand and belgium would have to lose two runners before we could make up any ground.
so we might as well not worry about it until we see an opening.
catching them is going to be a long haul project.
