The 5th edition of Great Dane Backyard Ultra is being held around Grathe Heath and in Kompedal Plantage. A place famous for the great Battle of Grathe Heath in 1157, where rival medieval kings fought for the right to claim the Danish throne. Valdemar the Great won the battle and was left as the sole victor henceforth.
Can you do the same?
The loop is trail and dirt roads with a short piece of tarmac in the end. The elevation is approx. 25 meters per loop. You will be running at open heaths and in forrests with good visibility and therefore a great chance to experience some of the several hundred red deer living in the area. Eagles, buzzards, ravens, owls and nightjars live here alongside foxes and a wide range of deer. The small Danish population of wolves have been known to pass through the area from time to time.
We offer excellent facilities for both runners and their helpers at Kompedal Lejren, which is a campsite with bunks for 60 people and a big assembly hall with good kitchen facilities.
The race will start on Friday the 5th of May at 7.00 AM. We will provide the runners and their helpers with a detailed schedule prior to the event.
Runners will be provided with a basic aid station providing energy drink. Also we will provide some sort of food for approx. every second hour.
Great Dane Backyard Ultra used to be the Danish Golden Ticket Race.
