This is a 4.167 mile loop that runs through the beautiful Eagle Island State Park. The course consists of a dirt path and some grass. The course is flat and non-technical.
Runners will line up at the start line at 6AM on Saturday and must complete the loop within an hour and be back in start corral at the start of the next hour when the bell rings. If you are not IN the start corral when the bell rings you will receive a DNF.
There’s no age group, no top three – the winner is the last person standing. There is no second place.
Don’t think you can hack the loop after loop? We have a couple options for you.
Sign up for the team challenge! Grab three of your friends – each person runs 3 loops. Choose the fastest loop of each member and add them together. The fastest time wins!
Still too much, but want to join the fun? You can sign up for the 2 loop challenge. You will still follow the Backyard rules and start each loop on the hour. This will be a straightforward fastest times added together wins. There will be one male runner and one female winner.
-Each runner is allowed 3 crew members at the start/finish where they can set up chairs/aid
-Once a runner quits or receives a DNF they must vacate their space to allow others in the race to move their aid closer to the start/finish
-Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course until each loop is completed
-No non-competitors on the course (including eliminated runners)
-No personal aid during a loop (a common aid station will be at the start/finish)
-No artificial aids (including trekking poles)
-Slower runners must allow passes
-The winner is the last person to complete a loop
-All others are technically DNF
-Results of each runner in terms of distance covered will be recorded
-If no runner can complete one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner
-Race will be open ended (there is no time limit for how long this race can go)
-There will be no cutoff or tie breakers
-There will be an aid station at the start/finish with minimal food, but will have water/tailwind/coffee/broth. We suggest racers bring anything specific they want.
