The Prairie on Fire backyard ultra derives its name from a prominent park in central Indiana which one day may ultimately host the event, Hamilton counties Koteewi Park. Pronounced ko-TAY-wee, Koteewi means “fire” and possibly “prairie” in the Miami-Peoria language. That etymology and the potential for a hot September day in Indiana created a perfect storm for us when naming this event.
In 2023 this race will be set in Hamilton County’s only 24hr park, Morse Park & Beach! Aside from it’s gorgeous waterfront location, this park has a ton to offer our participants and we will ensure you experience these benefits. We’ll have a covered area reserved for runner “home base” with restrooms just steps from the start/finish area. The course itself takes you alongside all the amazing morse reservoir as well as a number of small forested areas.
This race will feature a very limited number of participants in effort to limit congestion on the trail, so sign up today !
