The Prairie on Fire backyard ultra derives its name from the park which hosts the event, Hamilton counties Koteewi Park. Pronounced ko-TAY-wee, Koteewi means “fire” and possibly “prairie” in the Miami-Peoria language. That etymology and the potential for a hot September day in Indiana created a perfect storm for us when it came to naming this event.
Set within one of the most unique parks in Central Indiana this race features a wonderful amount of biodiversity. You’ll experience the immense prairie, rich woodlands and riverside trail during your loop. Aside from that it features tons of attractions for family and friends to pass time as over their stay as spectators. We will also offer plenty of parking and space to establish camps.
This race will feature a very limited number of participants in effort to limit congestion on the trail, so sign up today !
