big dog’s backyard ultra hour 31:

i know this is being repeated in many places,
but we have had some struggles here.
we have one trying to fight his way out of a death spiral.

i watched him leave after less than a minute between yards
and thought;
“this is crazy, he has to know he is doomed”
what courage it takes to go out when you know it is hopeless.

then i remembered last night
we had another one that seemed like they werent going to make it.
too short of a rest,
in the death spiral,

but that one found a faster lap
and got back in the groove.
we still have 15.
so that is why he went.
one more yard for the team.
one last hope to pull it back together.

its a funny thing when you think about it.
when we call the situation hopeless
the only thing you have left is hope!

in the mid-size netherlands (434) is still pulling away
iceland (-10) is putting some distance on slovakia (-16)

norway (-21) had really closed the gap on slovakia
but lost 2 more athletes to drop to 9
and now they suddenly find portugal (-34) in their rearview mirror with 11 athletes.

this contest is not down to the last desperate stages,
but every manpower change is becoming more critical.

taking a peek at the large division,
there isnt much happening yet,
except (possibly) eliminating some pretenders.
.
6 nations still have 15
altho i suspect they all have some that are yard by yard now.
five have 14,
and 2 have 13.
the top 10 teams are all within a 9 yard span.

that show wont begin in earnest until sunday night or monday!
