big dog’s backyard ultra 48 hours!!!!!

and so we head into the 200 mile hour.
i am anxious to see how many make it…

177 runners in 24 countries completed the 47th hour,
the satellite championships are about to produce more 200 milers in under 48 hours than anyone ever imagined possible.
the participants in this race are making multi-day history!

a lot has been happening as we struggle to survive to see the sun rise (for the third time).
iceland passed the netherlands
and moved into first place in the mid-size division.
if they hold on to the lead
(and i can hardly imagine a scenario where they dont)
it will be the greatest come from behind since….

well, since guatemala came from out of the pack to win the small country division.

and iceland might not be finished yet.
it looks like they are going to pass germany this hour
and move into 14th place overall.

in the large division belgium is now doing the impossible.
all 15 runners are still in the race.
we are one hour from seeing an entire 15 man team all complete a sub 48 hour 200 mile run.

it was a momentous hour for the US team.
we lost a runner to drop our number to 12.,
but we still caught new zealand and are tied for second place.
since they only have 10
we should have sole possession at 48 hours.
.
australia,
10 yards behind us and also having 12 athletes is our mist immediate competition.

i admit that belgium’s 26 yard lead looks insurmountable right now.
but this race is not yet half over,
and i have seen both guatemala in the small division
and iceland in the midsize division
come from hopeless deficits to win.

we arent giving up yet!
