big dog’s backyard starting hour 7:
as we move into the late afternoon,
the heat is greater than advertised (by the weather station)
but the US runners can hardly complain.
the last i heard it had reached 111 F in venezuela.
(well over 40 for you C people)
italy was running in intermittent rain,
as was kenya (i believe)
and are several others.
ireland started this morning under the threat of a severe storm warning,
with 50 mile an hour winds!
i havent yet gotten a weather report from everywhere,
but if you can imagine it,
someone is probably running in it…
seven is the yard where the runners cruise past the marathon mark.
a marathon is the measure of extreme distance in popular imagination.
it is but a waypoint in the backyard.
there are many more marathons to come!
so far in this amazing team championship
more than 21,000 miles have already been logged.
that is 85% of the way around the world!
i wonder how many times the backyarders will circle the globe before this race ends?
or maybe we can make a trip to the moon and back!
