a close second behind the problem of heat on the trail is the dust.
all those footsteps have turned the trail surface into a fine powder
which floats in the air like a dry fog.

and there are a half dozen runners playing hide and seek with the whistle.
among them are some of the runners with the strongest credentials.
with all the different approaches it can be difficult to distinguish between distress and intention….
